Subject: My response is a poem
After watching Mommartz's film
I had some more of wine
Contemplating the pretty solid
circle it describes
In a landscape crossed
with tractor trails and canals.
And with the atlas laid open
across the kitchen table
the snowfall appears slightly
different.

And the day has Silence written
all over it and invites questions

Remembering the unknown churches
and factory buildings,
the alcohol and the song,
the winter and the wretched
fish, the old age
The language that almost
entirely escapes me,
I, at least I hope, my dreams
dreams tonight will be of Eden

The film is a beauty. Profound , poetic, raw, tender and mystical. It needs patience to watch. You need to slow down and yield to the almost meditative pace , but you could be rewarded with a shift in your awareness. Be sure to watch Der Garten Eden Part1. This film is in German with no subtitles unfortunately.

The Lutz Mommartz Film Archive is a collection of the film works of German film-maker Lutz Mommartz, considered to be one of the pioneers in the film genre known as the "other cinema". Mommartz was born in Erkelenz in 1934 and spent most of his life in Dusseldorf. He began making movies in 1967 and eventually became Professor of Film at the Kunstakademie Munster. He still lives and works in Germany, dividing his time between Dusseldorf and Berlin.
